A NO vote applies to the specific motion shown. It does not necessarily mean the councillor opposed the underlying project or issue. Council frequently votes on amendments, referrals, timing changes and procedural motions before voting on the final proposal. Read the motion text before interpreting a NO vote.
Voting is one part of a councillor’s record. This table starts with the motions each member moved and seconded, as recorded in the official minutes, followed by how they voted. Select a name for the motions that member moved.
Counts are factual tallies of recorded actions. They are not scores, and a count of votes opposed does not show a position on any issue.
Choose a topic to see its votes in date order. A vote can carry more than one tag. Tags are assigned by this site from keywords in each motion’s title and text, and some placements are judgment calls.
Voting records show how members voted on individual motions, but they do not by themselves show who developed or introduced an initiative. Where the minutes name them, this site therefore also identifies the councillor who moved and seconded each motion.
A vote against an amendment, referral or procedural motion should also not automatically be interpreted as opposition to the underlying issue.
The site presents the motion text and official minutes so users can review the context themselves. It does not rate members or describe them as supporters or opponents of an issue.
The City of Burnaby's Council meeting minutes: 109 sets of City Council, Special Council and Inaugural minutes from 2 November 2022 to 25 August 2026. Each vote links to its minutes and, where available, the meeting video.
The official record is authoritative. Where this page and the official record differ, the official record is correct.
Burnaby records each result as “CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY”, “CARRIED” or “DEFEATED”, followed by the names of anyone opposed. Members named as opposed are counted against; everyone else present is counted in favour. Attendance comes from each meeting's present and absent lists, adjusted when a member declared a conflict of interest and left, or joined late.
In 2022 and 2023 Burnaby's minutes introduce each motion with “MOVED BY COUNCILLOR …, SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR …”, and those names are shown exactly as recorded. From 2024 the minutes say only “MOVED AND SECONDED”, so later votes say “Mover not available from source”. The mover is never inferred.
Each vote is labelled Main motion, Amendment, Referral, Postponement, Reconsideration, Procedural or Other, based on how the minutes describe it and on the wording of the motion. “Procedural” here mostly means receiving a report for information. The labels are assigned by this site and are a guide; the motion text is shown in full.
The data was compiled with AI assistance. Software read each set of minutes and extracted the votes, motion text, movers and seconders; the results were checked against samples of the originals, not vote by vote. This page may therefore contain transcription or processing errors.
